‘Clann na mBan’ Collection

Pronounced as “klan-nuh-mawn”.
Translated from Irish Gaelic to English as “Family of Woman”.

A collection inspired by my journey of reconnecting with my feminine lineage and honoring the generations of women who came before me. As I delved into my Irish heritage, I uncovered the strength and wisdom passed down through my ancestral line, from mothers to daughters. This collection celebrates the powerful feminine energy that has nurtured and protected across generations, honoring the resilience, love, and legacy of the women who paved the way for us.

BRAND COLLECTIONS

The Meaning behind the name “Mei”

The brand MEI is named after my children (Mekhi, Elijah, and Isaac). MEI of London is pronounced M.E.I. When looking for a name for the brands hero product/collection line, I searched far and wide for a name with a meaning that resonated with both the brand and the collection, and unbeknownst, the answer was right in front of me: Mei (pronounced may). In Chinese, Mei means “beautiful” or “pretty” Mei can also mean “plum blossom”, a flower that symbolises resilience and perseverance in Chinese Culture. In Japanese, Mei can mean “bright” or “clear”. Mei is a common Japanese female given name meaning “bud” and meaning “rely” or “depend.” These two have been combined to create a unique meaning for Mei of London.
The name “Mei” represents a harmonious blend of feminine beauty and elegance, symbolising both grace and resilience. It embodies the essence of a strong yet delicate feminine spirit, where grace meets perseverance and elegance is interwoven with profound strength rooted in timeless cultural wisdom.

Second Skin Comfort & Innerwear

CLIMATE ADAPTIVE SECOND SKIN FABRICS

I set out to develop a product that would bridge a gap between the beach and resort. My idea was that a woman could wear her favourite beach cover up over her swimsuit, then change into a dress/innerwear that would transform her cover up into something she could wear to dinner, for example. As a woman in my 40's I also understand the need for the garment to go further than just being that transitional piece.

Adaptive bio-synthetic materials imbued the brand’s product of second skin base layers with skin-boosting vitamins and mineral properties. These pieces provide the opportunity to transition our much-loved sheer beach cover-ups into functional resort wear for all ages and sizes, incorporating both functionality and purpose with climate-adaptive features such as SPF and cooling.
